ABOUT THIS FIBRE

An exceptional fibre

Each spring, herders gather the inner coat of the Capra hircus goat by hand, with slow and precise gestures passed down through generations. From each goat, only forty grams of usable fibre are gathered a year.

What cashmere is.

A natural fibre from the undercoat of the Capra hircus goat, a species adapted to the extreme temperatures of the mountainous regions of Central Asia. To endure winters of up to forty degrees below zero, the goat develops a second skin — an undercoat of extraordinarily fine, soft fibres that act as a natural insulator.

With a fibre diameter between 14 and 19 microns — finer than a human hair — cashmere combines silky softness with a lightness and thermal capacity unmatched in the natural fibre world.

Essential properties

Cashmere is three times warmer than sheep's wool, at a fraction of the weight. Its hollow fibres trap air and regulate body temperature, insulating against the cold without overheating in milder climates.

It is hypoallergenic, perceptible at first touch, and notably elastic. The garment recovers its silhouette with ease, resists creases, and holds its drape over the years. With wear, cashmere does not deteriorate — it softens.

TECHNICAL DATA

Top Mongolia at Murmells

The cashmere Murmells uses is Top Mongolia. Not for positioning — by technical decision.

It is the only category that allows the most demanding tailoring techniques, such as double-face, with no concessions in softness, drape, or durability.

The current bobbin comes from the historic mills of the Italian Piedmont. A construction that joins two faces of the same cloth in a single line of stitching, with no lining. The result is a cloth that is silky, compact, and full-bodied — one that warms without weight and softens with the years.
